Balance !

So many are in need . . . so many good causes in

the world today.

Many of us feel torn between the call to inner work
and the call to social and political action. We sense
a need for working on ourselves, but an
equally-compelling urge to help make changes in
our community or nation.

The following story may help bring balance to
the push and pull between the internal and external challenges
that we face:

One day Socrates and I were walking back toward the
Berkeley campus during a period of intense
self-analysis, self-healing, and other forms of inner
work. As Soc and I neared campus, a student handed me
a flyer.

I glanced at it. “Soc,” I said, “will you
look at this. It’s about saving the whales and
dolphins.”

” Last week,” I sighed, “I got one
about oppressed peoples; the week before it was about
starving children. Sometimes I feel so guilty, or
self-centered, doing all this work on myself
when there are so many people in need out there.”

Socrates glanced at me but said nothing.

“Did you hear what I said, Socrates?”

Abruptly, he stopped, turned, and said, “I’ll give you
five bucks if you can slap me on the cheek.”

“But . . . what does that have to do with ..?”

“Ten bucks,” he interrupted.

I figured it was some kind of test, so I took a swing  and found myself on the ground in a painful wrist lock.

As Soc helped me up, he said, “Notice how a little leverage can
be quite effective?”

“Yeah, I sure did,” I replied, shaking my wrist.

“It’s admirable to want to help the world,” he said.

“But to best help someone, you have to understand
them and to understand others, you have to first
understand yourself. So do what you are moved to
do but at the same time, prepare yourself so you can
develop the clarity to know how to exert the
right leverage, in the right place, at the right time. Then
your actions will carry the power to make an effective
difference.

“History, he added, holds many examples of those who
acted without the wisdom to foresee the consequences .

The Chakras

Have you ever had a “gut feeling” about something that’s later turned out to be true? Have you ever felt “open-hearted”? Ever encountered a situation that’s made you “hot under the collar”? Or a person who is “a pain in the neck”?

Believe it or not these seemingly illogical expressions have become part of the English language because they are unconscious recognitions of a deeper knowledge within all of us. A knowledge of a subtle energy system of Chakras and Channels and the way that they work to produce many of the odd sensations and intuitions that all of us experience from time to time. In fact while many of us in the West find the concept of the chakras a foreign idea, in reality we deal with them almost every day.

Knowledge of the Chakras is most comprehensively found in the ancient Eastern science of yoga. This system was first formalised by the physician-sage Patanjali about 3,000 years ago. Patanjali described a subtle energetic system within each of us which is comprised of 7 vital energy centres and 3 interconnecting, parallel channels. These centres each govern specific aspects of our physical, psychological and spiritual being. Their state of balance is the key to the health of the various body systems that they govern. In other words, imbalance, damage or blockage of these centres will lead to problems in the physical, psychological or spiritual aspect of our being that the affected centre deals with.

So what has this got to do with “gut feelings”? Let’s look at this and a number of other expressions to see if we can begin to decipher some of the language of the unconscious.

Tantric Magic

One experiment you should try is meeting a partner in your dream. You can program your mind with visualisation to meet your erotic partner in your dreams.

The objective of this exercise is to separate the feelings of sexual ecstasy from the physical act. You are begining an exploration into using the sexual energy to mainfest what you want.

For those those are aware of their chakras the first step is to learn to cycle energy up and down the spine starting with the base chakra and moving to the crown of the head.

Once you can visualise the energy flowing up and down your spine you are ready for the second stage. This is to see yourself locked in sexual embrace with your beloved. Now let the energy flow up your spine up to your crown and continue the flow in your mind through your partner’s crown down to her base chakra where it re-enters your body and begins its upward flow again.

Do this for several cycles experiencing the ecstasy that would be associated with physical sexual intercourse.

In another post I’ll tell you how to add your mental talisman to this process. Your mental talisman is a visual representation or encoding in a picture of what you want to manifest.

You know that your work is progressing when your partner and you meet in your dreams.
